Cookies from the Creek Virtual Baking Workshop

Join us virtually from the Half Way House kitchen to bake some of our popular cookie recipes from our historic kitchen. We will delve into the fascinating history of cookies and the ingredients that make up these recipes.

Our Virtual Baking Workshops are led by our knowledgeable costumed educators who have been baking for years at the Village. These sessions are suitable for all ages and no previous baking experience is required.

  • Price: $25.00 + HST per household
  • Members receive 10% of the cost of the program.
  • Time: 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. weekends
  • Dates: Every Saturday from May 22 to June 26

Please note: This program requires a minimum number of participants to run. If the minimum number of bookings is not met 48 hours in advance the program, any registered participants will be immediately notified and their tickets refunded.


What will we be baking?

We will be baking two of our most requested cookies from our heritage kitchen. Soft Nutmeg Cookies adapted from The Improved Housewife (1854) and Lemon Cookies adapted from The Cultivator & Country Gentleman (1869).

How do I join this virtual program?

All registered participants will be emailed a Zoom link on the morning of the program. You do not need a Zoom account to join the program, simply click the link and wait for the host to let you in.

What supplies do I need to participate?

  • Two bowls
  • Measuring cup & spoons
  • Wooden spoon
  • Oven
  • Baking Sheets
  • Parchment paper or baking spray
  • Microplate or grater to zest lemon
  • Whisk


Lemon Cookies

  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1.5 eggs (the other half of the egg will be used for the second recipe)
  • 1 lemon
  • ½ tsp baking soda
  • 2 ½ cups flour

Soft Cookies

  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1.5 eggs
  • ½ tsp baking soda
  • 2 tsp Nutmeg (or flavouring on your choice eg. Cinnamon, Vanilla extract, almond essence)
  • 3 cups of flour
  • ½ cups milk
