Black Creek Pioneer Village offers a safe environment staffed by caring and mature adults who are experienced in delivering group programs for young children.

Week 1 – July 4-7: IMAGINE & PLAY (4-Day Week)
Imaginations will come to life in a fun-filled week at Black Creek Pioneer Village! Campers will be welcomed into a lively 19th-century village to explore, play, build, bake, and learn!

It’s easy to have fun when you’re a superhero! Campers will design their own characters and help save the Village from peril. Join our team of pioneer protectors and conquer a new challenge each day!

Calling all junior detectives! We need you to come help solve Black Creek’s latest mystery. Spend the week searching for clues and interrogating suspects. Enjoy a special visit from Dr. Watson!

Once upon a time there was a village by a creek … Become immersed in a different fairy tale each day! From pirate school to the royal ball, kids can live out their storybook dreams in a real Victorian village!

Get up close with all of Black Creek’s gardens and farm animals. Have fun digging in the soil, harvesting fresh fruit, and keeping our farmyard friends company!

Week 1 – July 4-7: A Step into the Past (4-day Week)
Dive into the day-to-day life of an 1860s child in our classic pioneer camp! Play old-time games, bake on a wood stove, have fun in a one room schoolhouse, and much more!

Week 2 – July 10-14: Fantastic Food 
Experience food from a time before supermarkets or refrigerators existed. Help out with some gardening, harvest ingredients from around the village, and, best of all, prepare and enjoy a different old-fashioned treat each day!

Put down the tablet and get ready to use your hands! Practice 19th-century craft skills including sewing, woodworking, and weaving. Bring home an exciting new creation each day!

Week 4 – July 24-28: Expert Explorers
Travel back to the vast Toronto forests of the early 1800’s and explore the lives of Indigenous peoples and new settlers! Campers will find out what it took to live in Canada’s wilderness by building shelters, discovering nature, and making survival food.

Week 5 – July 31-August 4: Arts Alive!
Explore the arts and show us your creative side! Have fun with music, drawing, drama, and dance the way Canadians did in the 1860s. Organize a recital to show it all off to your favourite adults!

Leaders In Training

Volunteer, learn, and build your leadership skills in a fun historical camp setting!

Black Creek Pioneer Village offers summertime Leader in Training (L.I.T.) volunteer opportunities for young adults ages 14-17. Develop leadership skills by assisting our knowledgeable and experienced staff with all aspects of our summer camps. Build communication, teamwork, and organizational skills in a unique and rewarding environment.

L.I.T.’s can fulfill their high school community service hours while taking steps toward future careers in education or museums.

Responsibilities

  • Assist day camp staff in leading games and activities.
  • Assist with the supervision of campers.
  • Help prepare camp activities and crafts.
  • Work well with campers, volunteers and staff.
  • Maintain a positive and fun outlook.
  • Learn about life in 1860’s Ontario
  • Follow Black Creek Pioneer Village costuming guidelines (costumes provided).

Eligibility

Black Creek Pioneer Village is looking for young adults ages 14-17 who are interested in working in an historical setting with children ages 5-12. L.I.T.’s must be available to volunteer for a minimum two weeks. All candidates must attend a group interview session on April 26, 2017. Successful candidates will be required to attend a training session on June 25, 2017.
