FOR EDUCATION GROUP
Students learn about the lives of the real people that made history. Photographs and artifacts from our collection make personalities such as Mary Ann Shadd, James Beatty, Jeanie Trout and Dr. Oronhyatekha come to life!
All about Wool (grade 2 and up):
Learn how wool is processed as students tease, card, and spin wool into yarn using a drop spindle. Discover the difference between how clothing and textiles were processed in the past versus today.
Games and Toys (kindergarten to grade 3):
Play with 19th century toys, try traditional games and make your own toy. What does/do toys & games teach us about the past?
Mystery Objects (grade 3 and up):
Discover how objects teach us about the everyday lives of people in the past. Get hands-on with artifacts from our collection and learn about several types of artifacts, how to identify them, and why they are important.
Sports & Games (grade 2 and up *ideally taught in gym or outdoors):
Play a variety of sports and games popular in the 19th century and discover how sports influenced the lives of Canadians. Learn about Canadian athletes who pushed boundaries in sport. What are the differences between leisure today and in the past?
Stem in the Past (grades 1 to 3):
Discover simple (and not so simple) machines used in 1800s Canada. Examine objects used to make work easier in the past, learn all about the real inventors whose innovations led to
All About Trades (grades 3 and up):
Learn all about trades that were essential to everyday life in the past. Try your hand at leather stitching, make a replica of a tin lantern, and learn how a printing press works.
