Join Indigenous artisan, Tanya Gluvakov, for a live demonstration that weaves together Indigenous beadwork and exploring the importance of cedar in many Indigenous cultures—as medicine, protection, and connection to the land. Learn the cultural significance behind beadwork as a form of expression, resilience, and identity.

With help from Tanya, make a special craft that looks much like traditional beadwork. We’ll use cedar and other natural materials to create a design that shows the spirit and meaning behind real beadwork. All materials will be provided. This workshop is open to all skill levels and encourages respectful learning and sharing.

Please note: although our live demonstration uses actual beads and materials to create the pieces, participants will use craft materials unlike the beads used in our demo.  (While supplies last.)

Growing up, I had the pleasure of learning about my Indigenous culture (Six Nations of the Grand River- First Nations) from my grandmother and other members of our community. Using elements of nature and interconnection- I have found great knowledge and peace amongst our plant kin. As an adult I still use this knowledge in my own life and wished to share it with others.
