Enter the world of Confederation-era Canada. Interpret, analyze, and evaluate Canada’s past through the eyes of women, children, and the various religious and ethnic groups that contributed to our country’s development.

Build on knowledge gained in the Virtual Field Trip by adding one of the following optional workshops:

  • What is an Artifact?: Students are sent on a mission to find an “artifact” that represents an important event or experience in their life or the life of their family. At the next session, an educator will join the class live from the Village to discuss what different types of artifacts teach us about the challenges, changes, and contributions of different communities in the past.
  • The Doctor Dilemma: Should Emily Stowe and Jennie Trout be allowed to attend medical school? Students are sent both primary and secondary sources to explore in order to prepare for a lively debate. At the next session, an educator will join the class live from the Village to moderate a discussion of the “admissions panel” deciding the future of these two trailblazing women!
