Step into spring and join us for Opening Weekend at The Village, where the focus is on the fascinating world of textiles!
From sheep’s wool to finished fabric, discover the journey behind the textiles that shaped daily life in the past. Explore hands-on stations across The Village and meet skilled interpreters who will guide you through every step of historic textile production.
Here is a sneak preview at the opportunities that await you:
- Carding & Spinning — Learn how raw wool is cleaned and prepared for spinning in the Strong Family’s Second House (#12)
- Dyeing — Discover how textiles were dyed in the Strong Family’s First House (#9).
- Weaving — See rags turned into rugs on traditional looms at Charles Irvin’s Weaver’s Shop (#31) and try your hand at weaving on our giant looms at Mackenzie House (#32).
And, don’t forget to ‘colour the past’ with a special activity located in the Tap Room of Half Way House (#16).
Opening Weekend takes place April 26 & 27 from 11 am – 4pm. Come experience the skill that went into making textiles in the 19th century!
